FAQs

Who can participate in your tours?

We welcome guests ages 2 and up for kennel tours and dog sledding adventures. All participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Are there any health restrictions?

Yes. For safety reasons, guests who are pregnant, or who have recently sustained an injury or undergone surgery, may not participate in our tours.

Do I need previous dog sledding experience?

No. You don’t need any prior dog sledding experience to join us. Our guides (mushers) explain what to expect and handle the technical side, while you enjoy the ride and interact with the dogs at your comfort level.

What should I wear and bring for winter tours?

In winter, plan to dress as if you’ll be outside in the snow for an extended time. We recommend:

  • A warm winter jacket that is water/weather resistant
  • Snow pants
  • Insulated winter boots with thick wool or synthetic socks
  • Please avoid Uggs and cotton socks—they won’t keep your feet warm when wet
  • Winter gloves or mittens that are water/weather resistant
  • Goggles and/or sunglasses
  • A scarf or face mask
  • A warm hat
  • Extra non-cotton layers (pullovers, long johns, etc.)
  • “Yak Traks” or other boot grips can also be very helpful on icy days.

Do I need a headlamp or flashlight?

If you’re joining us for an evening run, a headlamp or flashlight is a must to help you safely navigate the kennel area. Even for daytime tours, having one handy can be useful in low-light conditions.

Is gratuity included, or should I tip my guide?

Gratuity is not included in the tour price but is always appreciated. If you enjoyed your adventure, tipping your guide is a great way to say thank you.

What should I wear and bring during the warmer months?

In the warmer months, we recommend:

  • Closed-toed shoes (required): old sneakers, hiking shoes, or rain/mud boots
  • Flip-flops, Crocs, and sandals are not permitted
  • Long pants (the sled dogs love to jump up and say hi!)
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • A poncho or rain jacket on wet/rainy days
  • A sweatshirt or light jacket in case you get chilly

Do tours run in bad weather?

We run in most typical New Hampshire conditions—snow, cold, light rain, and changing skies are all part of the experience. In the case of extreme or unsafe weather (such as ice storms, dangerous wind chills, or thunderstorms), we may need to modify your tour or reschedule for another time. If any changes are needed, we’ll contact you using the information provided with your reservation.

Do you have an indoor space or changing area?

No. Our entire facility is outdoors, and we do not have a changing area. Please arrive with all of your layers already on and be prepared for the current weather conditions.

Are the tours and activities hands-on?

Yes. Our activities are designed to be hands-on to your comfort level. You can meet and pet the dogs, listen to their stories, and, when appropriate, help with simple tasks. If you prefer to just watch and ride, that’s fine too.

Will I get dog hair on my clothes?

Most likely! We are home to many friendly sled dogs who love to be pet, so you may leave with some stylish extra “fur-dazzle” on your jacket and pants. Consider it a free souvenir from your new four-legged friends.

Can my child participate if I’m not going on the tour?

All participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. That adult needs to be present on-site during the experience and, in most cases, ride with younger children.

Do I need a reservation, or can I just show up?

All of our tours require advance reservations. This helps us schedule guides, match the right dog teams to each group, and plan for the day’s conditions. Walk-ins are not guaranteed a spot and are only possible if we have time and availability. If you do walk in and we’re able to fit you in, payment must be cash, and please note we do not have an ATM on site. We recommend booking ahead to secure your spot.

What happens if there isn’t enough snow for sleds?

When trail conditions don’t allow us to safely use traditional sleds, we switch to specially designed wheeled carts pulled by our sled dogs. The experience is still hands-on and trail-based, just on wheels instead of runners. In rare cases of unsafe conditions, we may need to adjust your tour time or reschedule.

Can I take photos or videos during my visit?

Yes, you’re welcome to take photos and short videos of your experience, as long as it’s safe to do so and doesn’t interfere with the dogs, guides, or sled/cart. Your musher can let you know when it’s a good time to snap pictures on the trail.

What if I’m a little nervous around dogs?

That’s okay. Our activities are designed to be hands-on to your comfort level. You can start by meeting a few calm dogs, keep a bit more distance if you prefer, or simply watch the action from the sidelines while you get used to being in the kennel.
